We run the town!

Democracy is not a given. The path to all emancipated citizens governing Örebro was not without difficulties. Although women did not even have the right to vote, Hanna Lindberg became the first woman elected to Örebro municipal council in 1912. When universal and equal suffrage was finally introduced in 1921 it was thanks to the sustained efforts of women and men. For almost 100 years, men and women, both poor and rich, have been equally responsible for voting in our elected representatives. That is an anniversary worth celebrating.
